For 2WD tractors, June U.S. sales in the 100-plus HP category increased 16%, under-40 HP tractors grew 15%, and 40-100 HP 2-wheel drive tractors gained 4%.
"These tariffs target the vital parts and components used in equipment manufacturing throughout the U.S. They will also drive up the cost of manufacturing...," says the Assn. of Equipment Manufacturers President Dennis Slater.
Total U.S. sales of 2WD tractors for May gained 17% compared to May 2017, bolstered by gains of 20% in both the 100-plus horsepower and under-40 horsepower categories, according to the latest data from the Assn. of Equipment Manufacturers.
The survey identified eight provisions of the new tax code and asked respondents to rank them from the most beneficial to the least beneficial for their company’s respective operations.
According to the Assn. of Equipment Manufacturers' latest report, U.S. sales of 2WD tractors in the 40-100 horsepower range were up 7.4% in April and up 2.2% year-to-date. In Canada, sales for 2WD tractors less than 40 horsepower were up 5.2% in April and up 3.9% year-to-date.
According to the Assn. of Equipment Manufacturers, U.S. year-to-date sales of under 40 horsepower tractors were up 1.1% for the first quarter compared with last year and up more than 5% compared with March of last year. Canadian year-to-date sales of under 40 horsepower tractors were up 3.7% for the first quarter compared with last year and up 0.7% compared with March of last year.
Dealers specializing in selling compact tractors (under 40 horsepower) had another banner year in 2017 as U.S. and Canadian sales of the small equipment reached all-time highs.

U.S. retail sales in December of compact tractors were up 4.6% compared with December of last year. Tractors in the 40-100 horsepower range were mostly flat for the year.
