More than 100,000 family-sustaining equipment manufacturing jobs can be created before the end of President Biden’s first term in office, according to new data from IHS Markit released today by the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM).
Tractor sales in the under 40 horsepower category dropped 15.4% year-over-year in the U.S. for March and by 33.4% in Canada, according to the Assn. of Equipment Manufacturers.
The Assn. of Equipment Manufacturers, Associated Equipment Distributors and the Equipment Dealers Assn. urged governors to designate equipment manufacturers, suppliers, and dealers and service technicians as “essential” to the economic continuity of the states as they continue to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the U.S., sales of under 40 horsepower 2-wheel-drive tractors were down 9.7%, and sales of 40-100 horsepower tractors were down 5.6%. In Canada, sales for the under 40 horsepower segment fell 20.2%, while the 40-100 horsepower segment fell 10.3%.

The two organizations are coming together during NAMA’s 2020 Agri-Marketing Conference with a pre-conference workshop targeted at multi-location dealers and retailers as well as small to medium-sized manufacturers.
During this 125th-anniversary year for AEM, three companies were honored as 125-year members: AGCO Corp. (Massey Ferguson), CNH Industrial America LLC and Deere & Co.
Mary Andringa’s leadership positioned Vermeer Corp. as a strong voice in the areas of lean manufacturing, education of the future workforce, legislation and more.
The agreement between AEM and SkillsUSA reflects each organization’s commitment to be a solution to the skills gap, grow interest in skilled and technical trades, dispel stereotypes, as well as ensure all students are both college and career ready.
