According to a report from the Milwaukee Business Journal, Briggs & Stratton has agreed to pay $33.65 million to The Toro Company to settle a patent-infringement case from May 2010. Exmark Manufacturing had alleged a decade ago that some of Briggs & Stratton's "Ferris and Snapper Pro mower decks infringed on Exmark's mower deck patent."
In December 2018, Briggs & Stratton was ordered to pay $14.4 million in compensatory damages and another $14.4 million in enhanced damage to Exmark Manufacturing, as well as $6 million in interest. Briggs filed an appeal in May 2019, which the company lost.
