The California Air Resources Board (CARB) is moving forward with regulations to reduce mobile source emissions up to 80% by 2031, according to the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute.
As part of its small spark-ignited engine rulemaking activity, CARB recently kicked-off a small engine technical feasibility study to benchmark current technology and evaluate emission reduction solutions. CARB is also mid-way through a series of small engine emission inventory studies developed to update today’s outdated inventory model. The studies are scheduled to wrap-up in early 2019, and will be used to develop emission reduction targets for small spark-ignited engines through 2031. The rule is expected to be presented to CARB in 2020. OPEI’s Engine and Fuels Committee is engaged with CARB on this rulemaking activity.
