With strong preseason orders for snow removal equipment, Douglas Dynamics Inc. on Monday reported a 60% increase in second quarter sales.

The Milwaukee maker of snow and ice control equipment said it had a record $88.2 million in sales, up from $55.2 million a year earlier.

Net income more than doubled to $14.4 million, or 64 cents a share, from $5.82 million, or 26 cents, in the second quarter of 2013.

"Record second-quarter results reflect the improved market and environment, which was driven by higher-than-average snowfall across core markets this past year," Chairman, President and CEO James L. Janik said in a statement.
