AGCO reported net sales of approximately $2.1 billion for the fourth quarter of 2016, an increase of approximately 6.9%. North American equipment sales during the period were up 3%.
Second quarter net sales were $428 million, up $15 million or 3.6% compared to last year. The company expects the U.S. residential lawn and garden market to improve 1%- 4% including expected improvements in the housing market and seasonal spring weather in key markets.
Global farm recession and weak construction-equipment markets lead to lower sales and earnings for fourth quarter and full year. Industry sales for agricultural equipment in the U.S. and Canada are forecast to be down 5-10% for 2017.
First quarter net sales were $287 million, a decrease of $3 million compared to last year. The company expects that the U.S. residential lawn and garden market will improve by 1-4%.
Net earnings per share for the quarter were up 6.4% to a record $1.00. Professional segment net sales were up 1.4%. Residential segment net sales were down 4.6%.
