The Equipment Dealers Assn., along with Far West Equipment Dealers Assn., Iowa-Nebraska Equipment Dealers Assn., Midwest-SouthEastern Equipment Dealers Assn., United Equipment Dealers Assn., Deep Southern Equipment Dealers Assn., Montana Equipment Dealers Assn., Northeast Equipment Dealers Assn., Pioneer Equipment Dealers Assn. and Western Equipment Dealers Assn., recently released the following letter to their members about important Right to Repair legislation that was recently introduced in Congress.
Dear EDA Member,
For the past few years, EDA and other industry stakeholders have been hard at work fighting “Right to Repair” legislation. These very broad bills have been introduced in 30+ U.S. states and lump ag and construction equipment in with consumer electronics in an effort to give end-users the right to modify equipment. Unlike cell phones, modifying heavy equipment creates safety and environment violations that pose an inherent risk to those who operate, repair and sell it.
Thus far, EDA and its coalition partners have been successful in defeating this state legislation (not a single state has passed a Right to Repair bill), but now the stakes are higher. On June 17th, New York Congressman, Joseph Morelle, introduced HR4006. This legislation would force Right to Repair upon all states and every dealer in the Country. We need your help to send a message that these types of bills hurt local dealers, place customers and the general public at risk for injury, and negatively impact the environment. Please reach out to your elected officials and demand they oppose this legislation.

Collectively, we have to send a message to D.C. that these types of bills will not stand. Your message can simply be “oppose HR4006,” or you can use the attached sample letter and talking points to have a more in-depth conversation. Anything helps!
