Plans to build a new Tractor Supply Company in Chestnuthill Township are chugging along.

Developers for the mega farm-equipment store, which would be located near the law offices of Merwine, Hanyon & Kaspszyk on Route 209 in Brodheadsville, just need to get two specific plans approved by the Monroe County Conservation District in order for the project to move forward.

The plans should outline how developers intend on preventing any runoff — building materials mixed in excess rainwater — from affecting or polluting the surrounding areas.

"We're pretty confident that everything will be in order," said Eric Snyder, an engineer at Keystone Engineers and the manager of the project.

Work to widen roadways around the store has already begun. Route 209 will be widened and a turning lane added to cope with the potential increased traffic.

Tractor Supply, a chain store that sells everything from farming equipment to outdoor gear to pet food, bills itself as the "largest retail farm and ranch store in the U.S."

Developers for the project say that if the conservation district approves the two plans regarding runoff, those plans will then be sent over to the Chestnuthill Board of Supervisors, which must give the final OK.

If all goes well, the store should be open in the summer of 2011.
