AGCO a worldwide manufacturer and distributor of agricultural equipment, today announced the donation of a Massey Ferguson tractor to Habitat for Humanity. The non-profit organization plans to use the tractor in support of its recovery efforts in Haiti following the devastating 7.0-magnitude earthquake that struck near Port-au-Prince on January 12. "We are very pleased to donate a tractor for a good cause," said Martin Richenhagen, Chairman, President and CEO of AGCO.

The Haiti earthquake caused major damage in the most populated area of the country. Millions of people were affected, thousands lost their lives, were injured or made homeless. International humanitarian aid organizations are trying to help the Haitian victims. Among those is Habitat for Humanity that assists with the removal of debris, the set-up of transitional shelters and the construction of new homes. AGCO is donating a Massey Ferguson 1533 with a DL120 loader and a CB20 backhoe. This tractor is going to be shipped to Haiti for use in the cleanup efforts there: The loader can be used to move dirt and debris and the backhoe can be used to clean out ditches and dig trenches as needed.

Habitat for Humanity has been at work in Haiti for 26 years. It is committed to serving 50,000 Haitian families--250,000 individuals--impacted by the earthquake by providing immediate, transitional and long-term shelter solutions over the next five years. Habitat's recovery housing solutions include providing emergency shelter kits, assessing and repairing houses, building transitional shelters and core houses that families can expand over time, and designing and planning whole communities. To date Habitat has assembled more than 21,000 emergency shelter kits, conducted more than 2,000 structural damage assessments and has built more than 850 transitional shelters. It has also employed more than 200 Haitians to implement its disaster recovery program.
