A backup generator can become a must with a major power outage. With what happened on the east coast, workers at a Wisconsin manufacturer of generators are putting in double time.
Wisconsin based Generac is flooded with orders from East Coast distributors trying to satisfy high demand driven by Hurricane Irene.
Generac Spokesman Duane Nelson says, "Being a 50-year-old company, this is something that's fairly typical to us. We do know how to respond to the demand that increase during a storm like this."
Nelson says shipping will continue non-stop at the company's Whitewater facility. "A lot of consumers will run out to stores, to Generac dealers throughout the country, home improvement centers, national retailers to supply power instantly to their home should they be affected by the storm," he says.
Nelson says many people also tend to wait and see if they're affected by a power outage before purchasing. Either way, dealers are demanding generators and delivery trucks are heading east.
