A partial ban on gas powered leaf blowers in the Village of Northbrook, Ill., that was approved on Dec. 12, 2023, will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2025.

There will be a 9-month ban on gas-powered leaf blower use from December to March and May to September. This would allow landscapers and residents to use gas-powered leaf blowers during a 4-week spring clean-up window (April 1 to April 30) and 8-week fall clean-up window (October 1 to November 30).  These regulations would allow the Village Manager to extend these timeframes in the event of a storm or emergency. No exemptions are proposed.

During 2024, the Village will be creating a landscape contractor licensing process and a rebate program to assist businesses and residents with the cost of purchasing electric powered equipment.
