According to a Jan. 27 report from the BizTimes, Briggs & Stratton is planning to lay off 160 employees as its Wauwatosa, Wis., plant beginning in March.
The plant's home standby generator line will be moving to Auburn, Ala., and engine component production will move to Poplar Bluff, Mo.
"In a statement issued Friday, Briggs & Stratton said moving the 2 production lines will allow the company to consolidate production into facilities that manufacture similar Briggs & Stratton products," the report said. "This will minimize freight costs, streamline processes and allow the company to 'build products faster and more quickly respond to customer needs.'"
