Dealer Revenue Sources Vary by Region

July 23, 2019

Nearly all farm and rural lifestyle dealers derive their annual revenues from various customer bases. This typically varies widely by region. The past 5 years have also been volatile for ag, so some significant shifts can be observed from year to year.

Ag Equipment Intelligence editors have received a number of inquiries recently about the breakdown of dealer revenues by market segment. In other words, what percentage of annual revenues is derived from production farming, hobby farms/large property owners, etc.

Ag Equipment Intelligence has been surveying dealers since 2005 and routinely collects such data. A summary of the survey results is published annually in the October/November issue of Farm Equipment. In addition, the full results (48 pages) are published in the annual Ag Equipment Intelligence Dealer Business Outlook & Trends report each year in October.

The challenge for the rural lifestyle market of the equipment business is defining the diverse customer bases from which annual revenues are derived. For the purposes of the annual report, the rural lifestyle segment includes hobby farmers/large properly owners, turf & lawn/landscape contractors, municipalities & park districts, construction contractors and “other” miscellaneous customers.
