Avoid These 3 Questions in Interviews

December 14, 2015

Dealers say finding good employees is one of their biggest challenges. So, when you do find someone who has potential, don’t waste the opportunity by asking them: “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?”

According to a post on Monster.com, one of the world’s largest employment websites, questions like that are too vague and don’t give you the insight you need to see if the person can do the job. Two others to avoid:

  • "What are your strengths and weaknesses?"
  • "Why are you leaving your present position?"

Instead, ask questions like, “How do you motivate someone who isn’t doing his or her job?” Scenario-based questions give you insights into how a candidate reacts to real-world job situations.
